Contribute to Our Commissioned Work

Help support AWC by contributing to the cost of our recently commissioned work, “The Tides of Life.” Join us in creating a new piece of art and bringing a bit of Tucson to New York City!

Over the years, we have commissioned individual songs from different composers. This year, our conductor, Terrie Ashbaugh, was invited to be a guest conductor of women’s choirs in Carnegie Hall. She asked if we could commission a work for this momentous occasion. Local composer Khris Dodge immediately came to mind. What could be better than having the Director of the Tucson Jazz Festival, conductor of the Tucson Pops Orchestra, and previously AWC-commissioned composer to write a 20-minute work for women’s voices and orchestra?

We are now in the process of learning the music by Khris Dodge and lyrics by Katherine Byrnes. This incredible five-movement work, “The Tides of Life,” depicts the stages of a woman’s life, told through the metaphor of the natural elements.

This endeavor, much bigger than our previous commissions due to the Carnegie Hall performance, costs a total of $10,000 — that’s why we are asking for your help.

In addition to receiving our gratitude, donors’ names and/or brands will be listed on our website and in our concert programs. Projects such as this are always better when created and supported by our Tucson community — this time to be presented as a world premiere piece at Carnegie Hall!

“The work is at once simple in gesture and rich in craft — tuneful yet daring, delicate yet elemental — and is dedicated to all women whose lives guide us through the tides of time.” —Khris Dodge, Composer
