How is the Chorus Run?

AWC’s structure supports its operational and musical success while engendering a strong sense of community.

Three main areas of volunteer leadership — the board of directors, the executive team, and various committees — consist of over 30 committed individuals who each play a part in supporting our health and growth, while receiving inspiration from the professionalism, commitment, and musical acumen of the artistic director.

Committees

Committees are the third cornerstone of the structure and success of the chorus. Four warm and friendly section leaders support their section as they learn their parts. Section leaders welcome new members. Each committee is purposeful to help meet the needs of our growing organization.

Board of Directors

The board of directors consists of both choral and non-choral community members, women and men with a vision and passion for our music and presence in the community. The board oversees our financial health; obtains grants; sets goals, policies, marketing strategies; and makes major decisions involving our mission and vision. It is responsible for contracting and overseeing the responsibilities of the artistic director. Directors are elected by the membership for 2-year terms. They meet four to five times annually.

Executive Team

The executive team (of the board of directors) is a group of choral members elected by the board for 3-year rotating terms in the positions of chair, chair-elect, and past chair. The team oversee the committees that fulfill the daily activities of the chorus outside of the musical responsibilities of the artistic director. They plan retreats, tours, and event details for sing-out concerts and ticketed public concerts while also insightfully caring for the physical health, growth, and happiness of the chorus members. The executive team meets monthly with the artistic director.

Three Great Ways to Support Us

AWC depends on tuition, ticket sales, and — like most nonprofits — your financial support. Because of COVID, our concert attendance has been small and, while we have reduced our expenses, we still rely on (and appreciate) your generosity. So please help any way you can.

1 Donate

Donate to AWC and support great music. We’re a 501(c)3 charitable organization. Donating online is easy, fast, and secure.

2 Sponsor

Sponsoring a concert comes with perks. We publish your ad in our program and feature your logo (with a link) on our website, so it’s a great value.
